Announcements 3/7-09

Clan-wide announcements:

This week's featured fiction is The Last Sentinel! Read, rate, and review, please!
[7/5]

What Shy0ne says about this piece: This is great story about a young woman who hunts the supernatural. Rea is a sentinel, a protector, and the last of her kind. There is plenty of action comedy and a hint of romance. And some memorable and likable characters. Sen has some beautiful description in this story and the plotline is developing into a juicy story. I hope that others will read this and encourage Sen to write some more chapters.

How does featured fiction work? The author of this week's featured fiction will pick the featured fiction for next week. For a list of previously featured fictions, please click here. Note that you can pick a previously featured fiction as long as it hasn't been featured in the past year. (Authors, I need your picks by Saturday at the latest.)

You have a good concept. Run with it. I did have a problem with the length of the first chapter. It was too short for me.

I am a big fan of the X-Men and Wolverine from my younger days (didn't like all the changes made in the 90's). And to have them in a Film Noir type story without powers is just wonderful.

I will continue to read. I think Cal and ameaba caught all the SPG in this chapter...

:!: Saint chapter 7, reviewed by Mack

Yeah, Chapter 7 is complete! Again your descriptive flashes of the Film Noir is absolutely breath taking. The description of the bullet's travel was a bit gross but priceless.

I was quite surprised to see the lovely Yuliana. It was a surprise to see her after such a long absence.

Murder and mayhem once again follows Peter Saint into the the very depth of hell. Yet this is only the first step into "Dante's Hell" for him to traverse. I am looking forward to the continued descent in this hell as Peter continues to unveil who killed his wife. And the reason why he was targeted.

I have 2 SPG that I found...

:!: Lost and Stolen Things chapter 1, reviewed by Calamari

Well...this certainly is different. O_o But I like it, despite having the distinct feeling that my brain just got put through a blender.

My only real complaint is that I thought that Cecil and his mother were alone until you mentioned his sister. O_o And then I wondered where she had come from, and if she'd come with them or if his dad had brought her (which he obviously didn't) or something.

I also had to keep going and looking up words, because I know next to nothing about Catholic services. >.> You might want to put a glossary in the back for those of us who are completely lost...

The good:

It's a post-apocalyptic Western with clergy. I mean, seriously. What more is there to say?

Your setting and descriptions are both excellent. Very nice work there.

Also, you had a great opening hook, and you've introduced two very interesting characters who I'm looking forward to reading more about. smilies/cheesy.gif

The not-so-good:

Not that much, actually. O_o My main complaint is the length. It's so short!...

:!: Masks chapter 5, reviewed by Calamari

This chapter did not remind me of the last 100 pages of Ptolemy's Gate, no, it definitely did not, not at all.

That said, I really like Genou, and not just because he reminds me of Bartimaeus. (Although that helps a little bit.) And the argument between Genou and Merchant was great fun. :D [TEXT REMOVED FOR SPOILERS]. >.>

The fight sequence could be better. I was having trouble picturing exactly how Merchant was attacking Ballad. (Punches? Strikes? Kicks? A combination?) Also, why is Ballad's ring colliding with Merchant's arm if he's only blocking? O_o What kind of blocking is he doing anyway? Normally you block with your forearms, not your fists...

This was a good read and you could real feel her terror as she watched and shook poor Chris. It has my interest peeked as to what she really saw. Good start and I can't wait to read more.

[Chapter 4]

 Awww at last I get to catch up...Now this was fun and I love the chemistry between Merchant and Starling. It was good to see that Merchant has some skills with fighting. I loved his comment when she kicked the gaurd between the legs, it made me giggle. Oh and them fighting over who is the owner of the mask is quirky though I feel sorry for Merchant, you can see what is coming.

[Chapter 5]

wow awesome bit of action there! Though it was a bit confusing to get use to the sudden switch of character view and then for it to be of the Mask was something else. The arguing at the end was great and I loved when Merchant snapped that she was not his girlfriend.

Sort of a "character-sheet" for the house? Seems a bit like a tool for the writer rather than a piece of interest to the reader. Still sounds like a nice house and rather well defended. :)

Wow! This great, beside your talents with programming you write as well.
First I really enjoyed this story, and the nurse was very likable, with her bit of grumblings and her intrigue of the comma patient. And it was neat to see it had a setting of an actual place Norway! One suggestion is the quotations around what each character says helps with reading. I look forward to getting to know the characters some more and to find out who and what the enemy is. Keep it up.

Squeeee!!!! Tornell is writing!

Aaaand he wants comments on how to make his English better!!!
*dies and goes to heaven*

I'm really glad you've decided to post stuff here. It's always difficult to post your stuff for the first time, and to have it come under scrutiny, and I'm proud that you felt secure enough to do it. I'm more than willing to proof-read stuff, too, if you want it.

Comments about the story:

I really like the idea-- you do a good job of dropping hints about the backstory and what's going on with the world. There's not much to go by in terms of understanding the characters as individuals, but so far, I'm looking forward to more. :3...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 21/12-08

It is the season friends and time to reflect on the year soon past. As such I would like to take a moment to reminisce about LoS’ rather rocky start as an alternative to Tokyopop (TP). It already seems a long time since me and Calamari stuck our heads together and started playing with the idea of relocating MLC HQ...
